vlookup in Microsoft Excel

okey, we know that excel has a lot of helpful function which will beautifully make our tasks much easier (or better to say more efficient). One of those is the “vlookup” function.

#well, actually, i’m being asked about “vlookup” function, and i think it’s better to put it here.

Then, how we use it?

When you have series of data (array) or table and for certain purpose you want to “re-call” a data to another table, for example (see figure above), you want to know the data from number “5” (red arrow) and it’s paired (blue box), you only need to type “5″, and the related data will showed up. ^_^

The formula for vlookup is:  ” =VLOOKUP($A18,$A$3:$F$15,D3,FALSE)” Continue reading

Numerical Simulation of Flow and Local Scour around Srandakan Bridge Piers

Abstract

Riverbed degradation in Progo River had caused the failure of Srandakan Bridge I, which is located in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Province, in April 2000. Simulations were performed to simulate the supercritical flow in one-dimensional model. As the velocity variation in the transverse are more important than the vertical direction, this work simulates the supercritical flow in two-dimensional depth-averaged using FESWMS module in the SMS software. Besides the river flow simulation, the pier scour depth was also predicted in FESWMS using CSU equations. The simulation shows that the existence of Srandakan Bridge I will not deepen the scour depth in Srandakan
Bridge II.

miss this….!! :D

So…

I did my undergraduate final thesis using SMS (Surface Water Modelling System) Software. Not using the famous RMA2, i used the FESWMS module. Why….??? i choose the module because of two reason. First, because i wanted to simulate a combined flow (Sub critics and Supercritics) at the same simulation. RMA2 was not able to do that. Second, because no one in my campus (as far as i know) had used FESWMS before. So i was the first student who tried the module…!! yeay..!! (so whattt…??? lol).

by the way, during the process of learning FESMWS, i often visit this forum from AQUAVEO. i met many great hydraulic engineers there and i felt like talking to them personally. (oh, lebay…wkwkwk).

Now i miss you..!! Continue reading
